| Follow an old route up into the mountains, made by the
coal miners from Pocahontas.
It was the natives that showed them the way to the hot springs
running out of the side of a mountain. At the source, the temperature is usually 52C so I’m
sure a little spring water to cool this down would be appreciated.
At the pools themselves,
the average temperature is 42C. Sit out in the open and look for bears up along Ashler Ridge.
Sheep will probably greet you in the parking lot.
Take a stroll up to the source of the
water and see the old abandoned spa which attracted thousands in the summer months to soak
in the springs.
This area is only open in the summer. There is no road service in the
winter, so take advantage of it !
Cold, wet, rainy days will always draw crowds to the pool.
Make a day of it! There are restaurants as well and a poolside cafe. Enjoy! Allow
4 hours.
