VALLEY OF THE FIVE LAKES
The Valley of the Five Lakes is a small, open-forested valley set in the rolling hill country south of
the Jasper townsite.
This is an excellent half day family-outing trail. The circuit distance is about 5 km with only an elevation gain of 105 m. With a picnic stop along the way, plan on about 4 hours for the hike.
This can be lengthened by walking all the way back to Jasper which would be another 11 km, or south to Wabasso Lake for 7 kms and about one and a half hours.
SULPHUR SKYLINE
This short but steep trail climbs 670 m for about 4 kms to a scenic ridge with an outstanding panorama.
The view offers smooth cliffs, clear waters and high peaks to the west and rolling foothills to the east.
Just a taste of everything! You may encounter big horn sheep along the way.
Bring lots of water as there is no available stream to sample. The hike should be about 1 and a half hours up and one hour down. Of course we will pace only to your comfort. Then enjoy a well deserved dip in the Miette Hot Springs, one of the hottest in the Canadian Rockies. So don't forget your swim wear. Allow
8 hours for this hike and swim.
ICEFIELDS PARKWAY TOUR AND WILCOX PASS
Enjoy this interpretive tour along the Icefields Parkway with stops at Athabasca Fall, Sunwapta Falls and the Bubbling Springs.
After a look about the Interpretive Centre at the Icefields, we will venture down the road a short drive to the trailhead. Here we begin a most rewarding hike into the alpine meadows of Wilcox Pass.
The hike is only about 4 kms with elevation gain of 320m. This should take just over one hour. The view out over the Athabasca Glacier and onto the Icefields can only be seen from this height. It is more than you will see from the
snowcoach!
Through this pass was the first trail north in the wild unnamed mountains during the end of the 1800's.
After a break and picnic among the wildflowers, the return hike is less than one hour.
This tour is a full day tour. |
