Hello, and welcome to Beyond The Beaten Path's Help
page. If you need a little help figuring out how things work, just review the tips on
the rest of this page.
- Resolution
This site was designed for display on monitors set at a resolution of 640x480. If
your monitor is set to a higher resolution, and your browser is open to full-screen,
then the content on these pages will appear on the left side of your browser.
There will be a lot of empty space on the right side of the page. You can reduce
the width of your browser window, if desired, to get the "proper" view.
- Speed
This site was designed for the majority of viewers who want graphics to display
quickly. Each page has been carefully designed to download within 60 seconds,
using a 28.8k modem, under ideal conditions. Alas, the operation of the Internet
today is seldom under ideal conditions.
- Color
In order to obtain faster download times, we have had to optimize the graphics on this
site. If you have less than 256 colors available, then the photographs may look
"funny." With 256 colors, the photos should look good enough
considering the limitations of your system. Most of you now have full-color
video cards and will enjoy the best view.
- Text
Most text on this Web site is black, while hyperlinks appear
as brown. If these colors are different on your screen, then
someone has been fiddling with your browser's default display settings.
You should be able to reset all of the colors to their default settings using options
available in your browser. If you are not sure how to do this, consult your
nearest teenager.
- Fonts
We use some of the newer type fonts that make things easier to read on a website.
What you see, is what you got! Visit webmaster Crimson Star's Type Page to find out if
you have these fonts. Click here to
open a new window, then close that window when you are finished.
- Navigation
The vertical column on the left of each page contains our navigation links, towards the
top of the page. If you don't see them, then your browser probably isn't displaying any
graphics. This is an option that is on by default, but may have been turned off
by an impatient surfer. Demand that the guilty party remedy the error of his
(or her) ways!
- Mysterious Things
New technology allows us to present information for you in a
more dynamic fashion, using mysterious things such as
Cascading Style Sheets, JavaScript and Java applets. You will need a
relatively recent browser to enjoy this technology.
- MS Internet Explorer
We developed this site for Internet Explorer 5.0. It will run on version 4.x also,
but has not been tested on previous versions since they are not Y2K compliant.
- Netscape Communicator
This site has been tested under Communicator 4.x, and looks more-or-less as it
should. It has not been tested under any other versions of Navigator.
- Computer Platform
Websites are designed for a specific type of computer, and then fine-tuned to display on
other platforms. We designed this site for PC-based systems, but it should still
work on a Mac. If you run an Alpha, Dec or *nix box then you are on your own!
